Acto+SUR

Sustainable Architecture and Design

Acto+SUR is a studio located in Helsinki, focused on providing architecture and design services, with special emphasis on creating sustainable solutions that generate the least negative impact on the environment.

Our work is based on the appropriate and efficient use of resources, developing living spaces and design proposals with low environmental impact.

Currently, we are focused on the research and development of new sustainable industrialized solutions for residential construction and urban spaces, focusing on energy efficiency through the use of wood as a construction material.

Manifest

Observation, Study, Making.

These are the fundamental pillars that drive the work at Acto+SUR, guaranteeing a creative and evolving commitment to each project, whether in the field of architecture or design. It is through continuous experimentation that we deepen our vision, allowing an idea to emerge in the sketch and then come to life in the work.

Thus, it becomes an essential need to conceive works that promote respect for the environment, trying to generate the least negative impact and that provide space and expression to human habitation in the world, overcoming all formal and unforeseen limits.

Team

At Acto+SUR, we are committed to ensure that each project has a deep development in the different areas we address. Our philosophy leans towards a participative and integrative design, where different perspectives and specialties converge to achieve a more complete product with added value.

The relationship between Chile and Finland has seen significant moments throughout history. More specifically, however, these two countries share the condition of inhabiting the EXTREME. This condition, far from being a limitation, becomes an opportunity to offer a unique perspective that diverges from the common approach. It brings a fresh vision to the field of design and architecture, as it is through the exercise of abstracting a PLACE that it can be seen in its entirety and in its particularities. This enables Acto+SUR Studio to generate proposals that preserve identity and highlight the local culture and surroundings, thanks to careful OBSERVATION work.

The Acto+SUR logo draws on the image of "Inverted America"  by Uruguayan artist Torres-García, who in the 1930s and 1940s proposed to value Latin American thought with his famous  phrase "our north is the south". He invited new artists to have a  world view through the encounter with their Latin American identity.

This image was later used by the School of Architecture and Design at the Pontifical Catholic  University of Valparaíso, where one of its founders was educated. In 1965, a group of artists, poets,  and architects traveled through South America following the meridian of the Southern Cross from  Tierra del Fuego to the north, furthering this Latin American thought and creating a poetic narrative  contained in the text "Amereida".
