The relationship between Chile and Finland has seen significant moments throughout history. More specifically, however, these two countries share the condition of inhabiting the EXTREME. This condition, far from being a limitation, becomes an opportunity to offer a unique perspective that diverges from the common approach. It brings a fresh vision to the field of design and architecture, as it is through the exercise of abstracting a PLACE that it can be seen in its entirety and in its particularities. This enables Acto+SUR Studio to generate proposals that preserve identity and highlight the local culture and surroundings, thanks to careful OBSERVATION work.
The Acto+SUR logo draws on the image of "Inverted America" by Uruguayan artist Torres-García, who in the 1930s and 1940s proposed to value Latin American thought with his famous phrase "our north is the south". He invited new artists to have a world view through the encounter with their Latin American identity.
This image was later used by the School of Architecture and Design at the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso, where one of its founders was educated. In 1965, a group of artists, poets, and architects traveled through South America following the meridian of the Southern Cross from Tierra del Fuego to the north, furthering this Latin American thought and creating a poetic narrative contained in the text "Amereida".
